School Supplies For Teachers
Should teachers be allowed to pass out school supplies that you bought for your child?
It’s that time of year where parents have to go out and buy school supplies. I’m OK with the teacher gathering up and passing out the pencils, glue, crayons, etc. A few supply items I am not OK with being used by other students are the folders and binder. I specifically buy the durable/heavy duty binder and the plastic folders – these items last the whole school year and I specifically put my child’s name on these items that should be used by her. What makes it right for the teacher to give these items to other kids? Everyone has to bring in the same type of items, so all the kids have their own stuff and should use what they bring.
As a teacher, I personally would not pass out the folders to the other students. The items that I do let the entire class use are things like hand soap, tissues, paper towels, baby wipes and hand sanitizer. Things like folders, crayons, pencils, scissors, pencil sharpeners, and paper I buy when they are on sale for the students that can’t afford it or their parents flat out refuse to buy it. Remember, teachers have families too and many times we use our own money to make up for the less fortunate students. Unfortunately we do not make enough to cover the entire class for the whole year and that is why we need your help.
