Help with 6 year old kindergarten math issue!!!?

My 6 year old is having problem recognizing his numbers he can count in sequence and i even get him to write random numbers as i call them out he does this just fine… but when working with flash cards he can’t do it… he tells me he’ really trying but his brain just won’t let him work with the flash cards… should i see further help or is he just pulling my leg?? his teacher tells me she has the same problem with him at school??? I don’t know what to do i have various learning tools at home and i’m clueless of what i should do next

There are actually 8 intelligences (according to Gardner Multiple intelligences theory) I would try doing some tactile learning also to help it ‘imprint’ into his brain – try using glue to make the number on paper and sprinkling it with beach sand, the same can be done by cutting out the number from sandpaper, he can then trace these with his fingers to ‘feel’ the number. The same can be done with playdough, pipecleaners etc to ‘create’ the numbers. He may also find this preferable to sitting and trying with little success which can be upsetting for kids!
