Kids Graduation Gowns

May and June are big months for graduation, either high school or college, and I think it's interesting how today's students take for granted. It is true that the Most understand that marks the transition from one stage in their life to another, but most do not seem to understand the meaning of his title and what it represents. First, it certifies you have learned a specific curriculum, but more importantly, it means that they have the power to learn, that can be taught, two important attributes Employers are looking for. There are so interested in what you have learned in school as much as their ability to learn and adapt, which is what the title represents. Regardless of their degree, most employers will spend a period of time information and then teaches you how to do things the how they want to do things.

High school students in the wealthier parts of the country tend to believe they are entitled to go to college. I do not care how much money is their family, going to college is not a right, is a privilege, should be grateful. I do not think that college is the right path for everyone, some would better off in a business school or perhaps a stint in the army where they could learn something of organization and discipline. As our colleges and universities, trade schools and the military are honorable institutions and represents a viable way for youth to follow.

What I say to students leaving university is definitely not the same as the high school, that education is now his, and as such, have every right to hold teachers responsible for obtaining education they are paying. Frankly, I think every university professor should provide their curriculum vitae and credentials to all students on the first day of class so they know what they are buying. Some college professors do not like this. What I do not remember is that the customer is here. But I digress.

When I graduated high school in Chicago years ago, I received a diploma in cap and gown. I do not think that these diplomas are awarded more (in fact, most schools have been of "Junior High School" and now refer to as "Middle School"). Years ago, during the Depression, a diploma in Junior High School is highly regarded as it was in what someone could go before having to go to work to help the family. At that time, a high school diploma was valued in the same level as a college diploma is today. The point is that a title has nothing to take for granted, because it is a representation of your credentials in today's society.

I recently met a child who fell from his top year in high school, simply because he was too cool for school he felt he had knowledge of the streets enough to get him out of life. After a few minutes talking with him, I knew exactly where he was going in life, anywhere. This is a perfect example of someone who is destined to attend the school of hard knocks for the rest of his life, and grouse about it in the next years.

But if you have graduated, do not think this is the end of their education. You will learn lessons for the rest of his life. Our schools and universities do nothing but train your mind to learn. That is their mission. This is not to belittle the diploma will be given. After all, is a reflection not only you, but your parents and teachers. So treating your diploma with respect, be proud of it, go ahead, frame it. And "Welcome to the jungle".
